   Reducing the Impact on Forest lands:
   

     These are a few of the ways Pennington Crossarm Co. is reducing impact on Forestland

  • All logs purchased by our sawmill come from managed forests.
  • "Green" certified lumber products are purchased whenever possible.
  • All material not making lumber (bark, chips, sawdust, shavings, and trim ends) is used for paper products, particleboard, decorative bark, or finger-jointed pieces for studs or door components.
  • Reducing water consumption by using timed sprinkler systems for our lumber yard.

  Reducing Energy Usage:

    These are a few ways Pennington Crossarm Co. is reducing the use of energy

  • Motion-detectors and high-efficient lighting throughout our facility reduces the use of electricity.
  • Time-controlled heating and cooling system.  When business hours are over, electricity usage is reduced considerably.
  • Dehumidification dry kilns require less electricity and release significantly less gas emissions than conventional steam kilns.
  • Variable speed drive motors in the manufacturing area. The motors use only as much electricity required for the work load.
  • Recycled plastic strapping for unit packaging is offered (railroad approved).
  • Waterborne treatment which reduces the use of oil-borne treatment is offered.

   ISO 9001:2008 Certification - Pennington's Eugene, OR Facility!

The certification comes after passing a demanding, three-day inspection.  The auditor interviewed management and staff as well as inspected all phases of crossarm manufacturing to ensure we are meeting the requirements.

If you are going to be in Eugene, Oregon or Holly Hill, South Carolina, we would be happy to take you on a tour of our facilities.  In Eugene, we will start with a tour of Zip-O-Log Mills, Inc. Sawmill, our sister company sawmill, followed with a tour of Pennington Crossarm Co.’s Douglas Fir manufacturing facility, and finish off with a visit to J.H. Baxter who handles our treating.  In Holly Hill, you are invited to see the manufacturing of Southern Yellow Pine crossarms. You will find the tours to be fascinating and very unique.
